29 Jul Pinoso’s festivities in honour of the Virgen del Remedio.
S2M is located in Pinoso, a small town in the province of Alicante and today the town festivities begins.
As in the vast majority of towns and cities of Spain, which has historically always been a very devout country, the festivities are held in honor of a religious figure, and in our case we honor Our Lady Of Remedy, or La Virgen del Remedio.
Since our fiestas are in honour of the Virgen del Remedio, religious events are held in her honor, such as the Holy Mass celebrated each day of the holidays at 20:00 pm at St. Peter the Apostle, or the offering of flowers offered to the virgin, on August 7 at 20:00 pm in the Santa Catalina park.
These religious acts, although they occupy an important place in the programming of the festivities and are followed by hundreds of devotees and worshipers, are today secondary.
The real heart of the Pinoso celebrations are the popular barracks, which are open every day from midnight and where all the youth of the town and the neighboring towns meet to take part in dancing, music and fun until late in the morning. During the festivities at 19:00 there is also the release of the heifers, where the bravest try to outrun them just in front of the horns and by doing so get some serious cuts from the cows.
The area where the heifers are set loose is full of small bars and food stalls where you can taste typical fiesta dishes, such as grilled cockerel head comb, sweetbreads, sardines, spicy snails, and “michirones” (broad beans cooked in special sauce) while enjoying the most incredible races.
During the festivities there are plenty of events and attractions for all ages:
• Fairground attractions for the kids.
• Costume parade and horseback riding.
• Giant paella for all attendees.
• Celebration dinners.
• Wacky Race – a fun race with home-made carts.
• Water park.
• Concerts and theater.
And much much more. The best way to explain it is that you have to experience and live it yourself. So, consider yourself invited and enjoy the fiestas in Pinoso!
